Ammonia heat pumps & MVR
Developer of sustainable large-scale and industrial heat pumps for the production of hot water and steam.
ACHP
The Absorption-Compression Heat Pump (ACHP) combines the advantages of an absorption process with those of mechanical vapor compression in a highly efficient system.
By combining our ACHP technology with Howden’s oil-free screw compressors, we have created a globally unique solution that delivers outstanding efficiency, maximum reliability, and completely oil-free operation.
Key Benefits at a Glance
- High coefficients of performance (COP) through optimal thermodynamic process integration
- Heat sink temperatures exceeding 150 °C for industrial process heat applications
- Temperature lifts of more than 75 K within a single system
- Moderate operating pressures, typically below 25 bar, despite high outlet temperatures
- Flexible adjustment of heat sink temperatures by varying the ammonia concentration
- Natural working fluid with GWP = 0 and ODP = 0 (ammonia/water)
- Heating capacities ranging from 0.5 to 9.4 MWth in a single unit
MVR
With tailor-made MVR systems, we recover and reuse low-pressure steam and process vapors.
Key Benefits at a Glance
- Reduced demand for fresh steam and cooling water
- Lower operating costs
- High energy efficiency and short payback periods
- Reduced CO₂ emissions through electrification
- Flexible adaptation to different steam flows, temperatures, and pressure levels
- High plant availability and long-term operational reliability
- Digital monitoring and control systems for maximum efficiency

Public funding for your heat pump or MVR project
Turn Your Decarbonization Project into a Funded Initiative
The decarbonization of industrial process heat is a key priority of European and national climate policies. As a result, numerous funding programs are available to support investments in heat pumps, mechanical vapor recompression (MVR), waste heat recovery, and the electrification of industrial heating processes. Depending on the program, location, and project scope, a significant share of the investment costs may be eligible for funding.
BL Thermodynamics helps you assess the potential of your project at an early stage and identify the most suitable funding strategy. Together, we create the foundation for an economically viable and sustainable transition of your industrial heat supply.
