Founded in Aachen, Germany, in the heart of Europe, BL Thermodynamics began in 2019 as a small team of engineers determined to revolutionize heating and cooling technology. From its humble beginnings, the company has pursued one mission: to bring ammonia absorption technology back into the focus of the cooling and heating industry and to provide a significant contribution to the decarbonization of this sector.
The absorption technology exists since the end of the nineteen century but was rarely improved. Today our ammonia absorption machines are equipped with the state of the art technology and especially in terms of automation we are leading the market. The digitalization and the industry 4.0 standards make our systems safer, more reliable, and this, at decreasing production costs.
Cost competitive and safer ammonia absorption refrigeration plants and heat pumps allow a substantial contribution against global warming by turning waste heat into useful cold and heat. For this reason it is part of our matter to spread, diversify and increase the attractiveness of the market of ammonia absorption plants.
It was Dr. Juan Bassols who, starting in 1982, significantly expanded the theoretical foundations of absorption technology as part of his scientific work at RWTH Aachen University and, after successful prototypes, implemented many practical systems.
In 1992, Dr. Juan Bassols and his colleagues founded the company Colibri in the Netherlands and dedicated themselves to the further development and distribution of ammonia absorption refrigeration systems. By 2018, the company had supplied and installed over 80 MW of cooling capacity worldwide.
In 2019, BL Thermodynamics was founded in Aachen as an friends and family initiative. Our goal is to build a company that places equal emphasis on profitability, the well-being of employees, and having a positive impact on society and nature.
